Delay that, me hearty
I've found myself staying up much later than I should every night since arriving in Sydney. My guess (I shall figure you out, pesky subconscious) is that I'm nervous about going in to work on Monday, so I'm dragging each interim day out as long as possible.

Dear me.

Went to the zoo with rahball (Tim) today. Highlights included catching up with Tim (of course!), the free-flight bird show - I had no idea ALL those different bird species could be trained so perfectly! - and watching the restless lions just before feeding time. They came right up to the glass of the enclosure and I got some spectacular photos. I was shooting on an iPhone with no zoom whatsoever and I have pictures where the lion's head fills the frame. You forget how big lions are until one stands less than a foot away from you.

I got a bonus thrill this morning! After stepping off the train at Circular Quay, I came face-to-face with Customs House, which is a humble but sturdy sandstone library nestled amongst a collection of glassy skyscrapers. It's also one of the key locations in my book. I snapped a few photos and took off to the zoo, but came back that evening, and wandered the lobby, checking the reality against my mental concept of the place. Sadly, the upstairs library was closed, and unless I stop working and head back out early tomorrow I doubt I'll get another chance to see it this trip.

Today I also ventured into the glistening tower of wank that is the Apple Shop. I had a whale of a time, mind you, leeching off their chargers and wi-fi, and all the salesmen are as slick and efficient as the products they sell - but boy was it was a metric assload of ceremony for a few shiny gadgets.

The nights here at earthminor's place are delightfully chilled, and I'm enjoying the chance to netsurf freely. Joey (incb) and I tend to rap each other's knuckles if either of us forgoes standard nightly Quality Time in favour of staring-at-a-computer. I miss him already. He is, as always, in one of his messes - this time his bank did something wacky and now his ATM card doesn't work and until they send a new one he has no way of accessing his moneys without going to a credit union... of which Tasmania has zero. Neither he or I are too worried, though. It's something about those big puppy eyes of his; people see him and just... feed him.

Tomorrow I'll be working most of the day, then having dinner in Glebe with Greg and Elizabeth ( greg_merlo and freetuningfork). Looking forward to that, at least! And speaking of things I'm looking forward to, I'm chaperoning niaid to an art gallery opening on Tuesday night; someone's gotta make sure she behaves herself. ;)

Found a sale and bought a Slazenger zip-up hoodie, black with white accents, as I wanted something lightweight but warm to wear while travelling. It makes me feel like Sue Sylvester.

Sounds like your trip is going well! The lion pics' sound incredible.

H and I are so the same as you guys when it comes to Quality Time VS computer staring. It's so easy to get wrapped up in whatever is going on and whatever you just have to do online, but you really can't replace good Quality couple Time. : )

Also - Sue Sylvester is like my favourite character ever. I love her so much. :D

Sue rocks. She gets all the best lines. "So you like show tunes. It doesn't mean you're gay. It just means you're awful."

i am very bad at behaving.... sigh.

you will also get to meet my WONDERFUL friend Emma - i am crashing at her place and she'll be along to the gallery as well. AND read my catalogue essay for the show! and see the show - it's bloody amazing. seriously? if you get Big Money, buy some of alex's work. not only is it amazing, but you are talking about an investment that's going to double, triple, etc, in a few years.

he's my Number One Australian Artist to Watch.

Oooh, I can't wait for all of the above! Seeing the work of an upcoming artist will be awesome. I am a little culturally deficient; I lock myself away in my writing bubble and never know which thread to grab when it comes to finding a path into the tangle of latest bands, art and plays. What sort of art does Alex do?

Awww yeah restless lions are the best. We rocked up just before feeding time when we were at Adelaide Zoo and the lions were just phenomenal. Right up against the bars, I was extremely aware that there were only some metal bars and a itty bitty hedge seperating me and the creatures that view me as delicious NOMS.

In other awesome zoo news, I SAW THE PANDAS AT ADELAIDE ZOO ZOMG! (yes, that needed to be in caps)
