A Survivor's Tale
And the rest
I had to race off halfway through that entry to grab lunch, but I should add that not everything is easy, or is going to be easy. Money is going to be extremely tight. I will probably have to sell my block of land prior to the move, and if I do so, it's possible that after realtor's fees and the drop in land value I'll make a lot less from it than I should have. Had prices not dropped in such an extreme way this year I'd have walked away with fifteen to twenty grand; now I'll be lucky to walk away with eight.

Additionally, I need to get into those driving lessons quick-smart, or else I'll be buying a scooter I can't legally use. (Joe adds he thinks I should drive around in a car for at least a year before I risk a scooter, but I'd like to think my copious lessons with Rob way back when count for part of that, and the lessons and practice I intend to cram in over the next six months will count for the rest. I hope.) I think driving lessons should be prioritised above the sewing lessons I'd like to take, and above the further photography lessons I was hoping to do through PhotoContinental.

Also, while I have a whole swag of 'how to get fired' techniques now from a variety of sources, I am a damned little swot at heart and I feel bad about it... bad enough that I'm not sure I'll be able to see it through. For instance, I could leave today without working my full 38 hours... but I won't. And despite the amount of times I've been kicked in the teeth on the current game I'm designing, a small part of me still wants to please the bastard who does the kicking.

And I'm going to miss my family, and miss seeing my nephew grow up. But as mum pointed out, we live far enough away as is that we'll probably see one another just as often once I'm in Tas. I mean, Joe and I will be living in one of the most beautiful places in the world... I suspect we're going to have trouble keeping family AWAY once we're there!

As they said on the only funny joke to ever come out of 'Everybody Loves Raymond': "This is the Hot Zone..."

My coworkers have just started up today's lunchtime ep of 'The Office' (US) so I'm off!

6 hours! Ye gods! Over here it's like weeks and weeks of paid training with a pro teacher, and when that teacher declares you ready for the driving test you take that, and if you pass you go onto your provisionals for a while, then onto another kind of provisionals for a couple years, and THEN you get your open license.

I'll be sad to see you go, but also excited that you're off again doing your thing.

On the scooter topic, how exactly are you going to get that down there. Might be just as worthwhile to pick one up once you're down there.

There will be plenty of holidays - we will make sure we've got a spare bed so you can come down and holiday for free whenever you need a break from the glam life of radiation therapy. :)

As said yesterday, we'll prolly treat the scooter as a piece of furniture and ship it down on a truck over the barge, like the rest of our gear. I dread to think what the move is going to COST.

Congrats' lovely face, it sounds like everything is coming together in a real and tangible way for you both! I hope it all pans out and you're not toooo home-sick.

Also, have fun adjusting to the weather! :P

We'll be sure to give you a shout when we eventually come to Tassie for a holiday. :D

You know you only need your learners to drive a scooter... which means you don't need to get driving lessons. hahaha. It's just like riding a bike.. with a motor? and no pedals? Just make you sure you know all the road rules and don't get all zippy and in the way of trucks. :D SUPER FUN!!!!

Sorry - late reply, have been stuck in puppyland.

I.Will.Miss. Youse!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Just a bit).

Also watch out for land tax, making money tax etc when re-selling. I think at last count we figured everything added up was between 20-30 thousand.

Umm...made apple pie, saw Simon at Coles?, Jason's dad is here, ran my car into the fence, HAVEN'T watched the all important photography DVD, bought one of those gorilla tripods etc. etc. etc.
