Portfolio overhaul time!
I want to overhaul my portfolio completely, to reflect the painting / illustration abilities I've picked up at my current job. 'course none of you have SEEN these abilities, as the work I do here is bound by an NDA, and I have felt pretty flat and uninspired for a very long time now... I don't think I've even switched on my art PC for a year. :\

For some reason I got a huge wallop of inspiration while in Tasmania and now I'm burning with the urge to create, create, create. I want to make my portfolio uber-snazzy.

Tonight I'm reformatting my computer. Tomorrow I'm buying a Cintuq 12WX (I'm a little concerned about the small size, but I just can't afford the 21 inch model) and re-installing my art progs onto my hopefully healthier computer... and then the arting begins.

Must move a comfy chair into the study. I intend to work with the Cintiq on my lap.

Hooray for inspiration. :)

Haha, me too! ;) Something that isn't retina-burning gaming-machine design for a change.

When you've worked on one thing for a really long time it's always nice to draw something else for a change, lol.

I'd really like to hear about your experience working with the 12WX once you have the chance to work with it. I've been using the 21UX at the office for about a year now and although I LOVE IT WITH HEART AND SOUL it has made me stupid when working from home and I've been consumed with the desire to get a screen tablet at home. I fear that the 21UX is also too expensive for me and would like to know how well the smaller version holds up under practical usage.

I'll review it once I finish my first piece on it. Reading around on the ConceptArt forums, apparently there are certain setting adjustments you can make that make it operate much better too. Looking forward to tooling around with that; apparently once it's calibrated 'correctly' it feels fantastic!

That's fantastic news that you've gotten your spark back! I'm looking forward to seeing the new tricks you've got up your sleeve and might I also add that Cintiq's are LOVE.

What size do you have?

I wish I have one of my own - one of my friends gave me a tour of of his studio he works at in Ottawa and took my fiance and myself into the background department and let us draw on one of the the studio's Cintiq - he thought that I'd be interested. It was a 21UX and the moment I put tablet to screen I was hooked. The pressure and flow just amazed me - like drawing like butter. Anyone who has the funds to get a Cintiq for their digital work should in my opinion. While I still use my Wacom Graphire 2 4x5 (still kicking!) someday I hope to have the funds to invest in a Cintiq.

Oh yes! more Tania art. Thank goodness. I thought you were turning into me artwise ( like a great rep, occasionalluy good for advice but not a spark or peice of art in ages...) Burnout and career betrayal does that to a soul...

I hear you there. I think I change jobs every two years or so because it's the only way I know to keep from being completely burned out (short of changing careers).

For me, drawing again was the kindly attention of cute college girls wanting to play a game. a Game was somethign to think about other than mylack of time and money and at that point the drawings just flowed. Now I am back to the old pace of a sketch dump a week. usually but of limited subject matter (but then 1998 until recently was all Asheru Radio (tm) and I STILL don't know how the story happens in he middle.)

I hope all goes well with thigns and I am looking forward to seeing yoru stuff again. :-)

I'm still thinking about what I would like you to do for me.. short of designing me a new tattoo that I cannot afford at the moment..

If you get sudden inspiration, you're always free to surprise me instead of making me request something <3

I definitely want to do you a tattoo, I've always wanted to do a tattoo for someone! And it would be a particular honor to do one for my bestie.

But I would not want to make that a surprise as you might not like the idea, and it's very important that you love a tattoo design obviously. :D Got any thoughts as to what you want? Doesn't matter if you can't afford to get it inked right away, I can still do the design for it now. :)

Well, I still don't really know what I want >.> But I know where I want them. I'm looking at a small one for behind an ear, one for under my left arm and one for my (right?) flank.

For the underarm one, I was kind of thinking of some kind of sleeping cat.. but I'm not sure.

I have a Cintiq 12WX simply for the same reason you mentioned. I love the fact that I can hold it in my lap. It is, however, not portable as it seems and there are wires everywhere. All that said, I love it almost as much as my bike. . . ALMOST.

Such a pity about the NDA.. is there anything that could be channeled out for PR purposes, maybe? How much of your own style can actually make it through, in a team project?

I'll also be interested in hearing what you make of (and with!) the Cintiq. If things work out this summer, I'm very tempted to pick up a 12WX.
