Tired day
Where did the weekend go?? Tired and a bit shitty with work today. One coworker acting strange. Good news, though: Johnny is coming back! He's a fantastic artist and a sweet guy; I look forward to both the pleasure of his company and the chance to pick his brains equally. I have to admit, though, it makes me sad to see so many artists returning here a year or so after moving on. (Johnny is the second this year; Alex was the first.) It's a testament to the fact that this is a good workplace, but also to the fact that there are too few other good workplaces for artists out there. At a guess, they left here because they wanted to, but they came back because they had to.

My post on 'revamping marriage' raised some interesting points, though more or less what I expected. Those who are married (or who plan to be) were against it. Those who weren't married (and/or don't plan to be) were for it. I seem to be the only one who plans to get married (someday) yet also has some ethical issues with the idea of marriage as it currently stands. I maintain that the current issues with the institution of marriage speak volumes for how well the concept works in the real world.

We were meant to get the van on the weekend, but two things stood in our way: the seller loaned the van to his sister for the weekend, leaving it unavailable to view, and the transfer of our savings from the ING account to my card-linked bank account is taking FOREVER. This is infuriating, as the tecnhology is in theory instantaneous, and it's only bank policy that means the money is held by one of the banks for a few days before they deign to pass it on to its rightful owner, but enough banging on about that, it's not bloody likely to change.

So tonight we get to view the van, but thanks to Westpac we can't actually buy it if we like it. Which means we'll probably have to go out there all over again in a few days time. Oh yeah, and we're going by train, just for extra fun. At least we'll get a great home-cooked meal from Joe's parents tonight... getting back from Logan to Kenmore via public transport late at night is going to be a drag though.

Supposedly there's a small game design studio across the road from work. Judging by their website and the quality of art therein, they're a bunch of kids doing it for fun on the weekends (how/why they have actual studio space is beyond me. They've not yet released a game, where are they getting their income?) but Rosa wants to go over there and meet them, and then challenge them to laser tag. As you do. I'm not sure that 'superior artists = superior laser taggers' is true, but I guess we'd find out?

The weekend was nice, though over too fast. Susan hosted a most excellent tea party for her birthday; Hammond and Sarah Grey were there, as well as a few of Suse's friends I hadn't met. We swam in the pool, played Pictionary, and had an awesome time! We also visited Joe's parents, and on Sunday Joe and I had an impromptu picnic together on the way home. The rest of the time was filled with Okami (well along now, fought the Nasty Boss Battle but the game is oddly structured, and continues on after that to, I can only assume, an Even Bigger Boss Battle), read some French, watched the first two Extended Editions of Lord of the Rings. Man, Boromir gets a much better rap in these ones.

The weekend needed to be longer. Apparently most other states got a public hol for ANZAC Day. Ripped off!

We didn't get a long weekend either. :(

With the transfers to/from ING accounts, it works through a direct debit/credit system which does take a couple of days to clear. This is half the reason I love my ING account, knowing that the money isn't directly accessible and I have to wait if I really want to take it out.

I know, I usually like that too, but we need Van and I transferred our savings on Saturday morning... early... It's now mid-Monday and nada. I can only assume weekends add time. Oh, and Joe transferred his KRudd money to my account at the same time and IT hasn't appeared yet either. This is not the first time he's transferred moneys to my account, they're linked in his bank. It's inconvenient enough that I'm considering not using ING for my savings next time...

Silly banks seem to have got themselves stuck in the we do everything in giant daily batch jobs on business days only era of computing. They haven't moved on to online transaction model, like the rest world has on the internet.

I honestly suspect they still use couriers to schlep tapes between banks......

Yeah, extended edition of LotR is so worth the ten+ hours of sitting. There's a hell of a lot more character development, as well as explanations for things like "where the hell did that horse come from?"

Gandalf, is that a horse in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

(Oh, you're talking about the horse that Aragorn magically tames, amirite? Judging by Eowyn's reaction, chicks dig the Elf-talk!) :D

Not that it REALLY matters, but I suppose I wanna acknowledge my stance as curve-breaker: I am not married and have no particular plans in the future to become so, but the idea of the five-year-expiring contract really bothers me.

Just ... just throwing that out there. ;-D

On the other hand, the REAL important issue here -- longer damn weekends -- is one I'm totally ready to start lobbying for. I worked all weekend and am due in at work in two hours, and I have to tell ya, I really need a day off. :P

(Even when I HAVE the weekend off, however, it's never long enough. It's really only a day, because Sundays are psychologically shot because you know you have to go back to work the next day. I really think the world would be vastly improved if we just went with three-day weekends already, y'know?)

Play Pictionary with Tania? Suckers. The only way I'd ever play Pictionary with you is if we could play charades afterward. :P
