Tired but ok but tired - Suffering From Elation
A Survivor's Tale
Tired but ok but tired
I've been a bit down the last few days for no real reason... I think I'm just very tired of the fulltime work routine. I get early enough nights but feel exhausted when I wake up in the morning. Work is uninspiring and I'm feeling as though I have no real shred of creative control right now... not that these sort of games are particularly creative. Painting another inanimate object today, whee. ;P

I know I shouldn't complain. I'm employed full-time in a reliable art job, well-paid and surrounded by people who are now more friends than coworkers. But I've been here over a year now, and am feeling, well... bored. I am not challenged, or inspired. I'm not striving for anything. Often I've wondered if this isn't some mighty character flaw of mine, that I'm always looking for a new challenge, a change, but it's also one of the things I like about myself... it just doesn't fit in so well with social expectations and my enjoyment of having enough money in my wallet to have occasional adventures.

Anyway, onto less navel-gazing matters:

- I want a DSi but apparently it would kill my beloved CycloDS card, and we Can't Have That.

- Work is busy, which is why my updates have been less frequent.

- On Saturday I went to the comics/anime/sci-fi convention Supanova with Joey, Mark, Rosa and Hammond. On the way there, we saw a GIGANTIC hound in the back of a ute. He was wearing goggles. For some reason whenever I imagine him now I also picture a scarf and aviator's hat, though those items were not actually present.

- The highlight of the day for me was Jhonen Vasquez's talk. He's the creator of 'Johnny the Homicidal Maniac' and 'Invader Zim'. I bought, and had him sign, the complete TPB collection of JtHM. All up I'm a bigger fan of Zim but I forgot to bring my DVD box set. Anyway, his talk was incredibly entertaining, in part because of his trademark brutal honesty. The first few audience questions were cringeworthy... "Where do you get your ideas?" Seriously? Have they even read any of his books? He frequently refers to the questions people ask him over and over and over again, and does so in the hopes that they will read his answers and not ask him the same questions YET AGAIN. Jhonen brightened considerably when Joey asked him about sleep paralysis, and after that someone else brought up video games and the rest of the Q&A was spent talking about those, which was a lot more entertaining than it sounds, especially Jhonen's impression of his experiences with World of Warcraft.

- Also, in person he's extremely cute. :D

- Rosa came out of the con bragging about how she'd picked up 'Final Fantasy 12' for Mark for only $15. When she pulled it out of the bag it turned out to be 'Final Fantasy X-2', more commonly known as the Worst Game In The Franchise. Haha, fail.

- Hammond dropped in last night and we watched some of season 2 of 'Coupling'. He provided apple tea cake, we provided Turkish apple tea, it was a match made in heaven!

- It is my birthday tomorrow. Oh my! Joe is working on some sort of big secret elaborate gifty thing, a series of puzzles of some sort.

- A friend of Joe's has a job opportunity for him - just casual right now, but that might improve - that sounds amazingly awesome.

- Forgot my gym clothes yesterday, walked home instead.

- Gym again this afternoon. I hope I'm less tired by then.

Omg, does he still play WoW? Did you wrangle a server out of him? :P

Haha, no... stopping playing was what his story was about. ;)

I didn't even know Jhonen was in Australia right now! :O Awesome!

I like Zim better than JTHM too. And Lord, I don't know how that man attracts so many...special fans. >.>

For me I generally get to the two year mark with a company and unless there's well defined way of moving forward I get bored very very quickly. My somewhat erratic career is mostly due to this. Fortunatley I've not had a problem in jumping ship when I've needed to.

The good thing about the IT industry is that constantly doing 18-24 month stints isn't frowned upon. In some respects if your job description hasn't changed and you are there for 4+ years, people start to wonder...

If the siren song for the DSi gets to strong, you can get a R4i card that works on the DSi for less that 20USD delivered.

I have the earlier R4Ultra made by the same group, no complaints about the build quality and it can take 4GB+ mini-sd cards.

Tempting. I'm getting one of their Guitar Hero DS controllers, that's for sure!

I fucking love Turkish Apple tea. Did you have it chilled? It's to die for. I buy mine from T2, I'm guessing that's where hammond got his? :]

Also, awesome news on Joe's job sitch'! Hope it all comes through. :]

The tea cake was Hammond's, tea was ours - and yeah, we got it from T2, and we love it so much we're going to get a bigger box next time! Joe's been serving it over blended ice... mmmmmmm. The boy has his uses. ;)

Sorry for the lack of reply on the other post! They watch our 'net usage at work and I'm worried about loading it for, well, obvious reasons. ^_^ In summary, awesome pics! Joe found the forum you guys frequent (he has way too much spare time) and signed up, as it seems pretty cool overall.

Lucky! I've wanted to meet him since 1998.

I was going to be an ordinary, non-crazy fan and then I realised how hot he is. ;) Nah, I kept the crazy adulation internalised. I'd totes jump his bones if I got the chance though. Crap, that makes me one of the crazies...

*cants his head to the side* CycloDS?

*one quick websearch and drool gathering later*

Doesn't look like it comes with any manual. Hopefully it's not too hard for the easily confused to understand?

Oooo, and yes, Jhonen Vasquez is the the sex. Man! I meant man... *glances frantically at his End of the World button*

It's super-basic, works like an SD card (actually contains an SD card) - there's one little bit of software you've got to download for it, it will tell you what that is the first time you pop it in your DS and power it up. :)

I get restless, too. I don't like feeling stunted, so I understand your need to strive and to change. :)

Happy birthday tomorrow!

Ah, Brisbane Supanova! I nearly went there once, but my accommodation fell through. Will get around to it again eventually.
