25 Things About Me
Not much to update today. Joe and I went shopping last night and bought Eleedees and Boom Blox for the Wii. Happiness! We were pretty lucky to find Boom Blox, even the cashier in EB Games was astonished. Subsequently we were up 'til past 11pm playing it.

In other news, The Fonz has buried himself under his water bowl and may be ready to moult. Fingers crossed! The thought of him becoming even BIGGER breaks my brain. Our sickly Doktor Krabbe (thanks for the 'e', Andreas!) is slowly getting better. I honestly can't believe he survived the infection. Knock on wood again...

Finally, this morning I saw a baby brush turkey scratching around the backyard. My head pretty much exploded from the cute. Tonight we're due to have dinner with Erinn, Ro, Greg, Elizabeth and Cameron, and then drive to Joe's parents place if the car holds out.

25 Things meme: I posted this on Facebook yesterday, so... waste not, want not!

I've been tagged. Thanks a lot Mark. D:

This is a meme. I'm meant to write 25 things about myself, things that you may not necessarily know. Things... of MYSTERY. Here goes.

1. I overuse the word 'awesome'.

2. I've skydived twice.

3. After swimming with seals and getting a kiss from one, I tried to recreate the experience at home with one of my cats. My partner Joe never let me hear the end of it.

4. When I was six, I accidentally ate a dead moth with my Weet-Bix. I still think about that every time I eat Weet-Bix.

5. In my adult life I have weighed as much as 76 kilos (168 pounds) and as little as 52 kilos (114 pounds). I once lost 20kg in just over a year. I find the thinner I am, the more critical of my appearance I get; it's a kind of snowballing perfectionism.

6. Sometimes I deliberately allow my leg hair to grow out, and then wear skirts as a way of becoming comfortable with my own body. Fuzzy!

7. I'm an excellent artist who doesn't particularly enjoy drawing. I really enjoy writing, but in that arena I'm average at best.

8. I keep an online journal and leave virtually nothing out. In fact, while I was working at Disney I got called out on writing about my job. I didn't learn my lesson, did something very similar in a different job a few years later, and was fired because of it. Luckily losing that job was one of the best things that ever happened to me. (Incidentally, I learned my lesson that time... sort of. Now I just friends-lock sensitive stuff.)

9. There's an extremely good chance I've had kinkier sex than you.

10. Mark Twain said: "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do." I consciously try to live my life by this philosophy, and never say 'no' to an opportunity to try something new. In particular, I try not to let fear of embarrassment stop me from doing anything. I've had some pretty interesting experiences since I started living that way.

11. Despite having worked a bunch of jobs in the animation industry, and at Disney, the best job I've ever had is the one I have right now: painting the corny little symbols for slot machine games. It's laid back, well-paid and great fun.

12. I have a tattoo on my left wrist of the Adinkra (West African) symbol 'Nkyinkim', which means "Life is a twisting road". I use this to remind myself that when things don't go to plan, the best strategy for happiness is to accept the change and make the most of it.

13. I'm colourblind, and make my living as an artist.

14. I have a fascination with crayfish, chickens, brush turkeys and bush stone curlews. If people actually had animal spirit guides I think mine would be the brush turkey, a creature which takes itself too seriously but is inherently silly.

15. My best friend Hammond and I once went on a mission to find the Weirdest Fanfic Ever. The winner was Tetris slash.

16. At work they told us we could have some pet fish, so I stretched this and got us hermit crabs. They're amusing.

17. I'm totally jonesing for scientists to find evidence of life on Mars, and an extrasolar planet in the 'Goldilocks zone' in my lifetime. Science boner!

18. I'm a geek but I'm awful with gadgets - they have a way of breaking when I get too close. Using this power in my uni days, I destroyed the QLD College of Art's old beta-tape animation line-tester. Secretly, everyone was grateful.

19. Good god, 25 Things is a lot of Things! I'm tagging a handful of you who I know like me well enough not to hate me for it, as a way of spreading around the pain. (only relevant on Facebook)

20. I'm slowly recovering from an addiction to Animal Crossing on the DS Lite. Now I have a little more sympathy for all those World of Warcraft types out there. :\

21. I like caves. Freudian? I dunno, they're just awesome. I spent a week at the Jenolan Caves in the Blue Mountains last year and it was AMAZING, especially the adventure tour which was all crawling around in the dark and the muck in hardhats with headlamps.

22. I want to live (not just holiday) in various other countries for a few years at a time, prior to settling down and starting a family. In the end I'd like to be the kind of person whose identity is tied in with multiple places and cultures rather than just the one.

23. Related to the above, sometimes I daydream about selling everything I own and just walking away one day with nothing but the clothes on my back and a few supplies; travelling around on foot and by hitchhiking, and living by couchsurfing and paying my way in custom drawings for my hosts. It probably seems unrealistic, but I've heard of people pulling off stranger things. See: www.wherethehellismatt.com - that guy danced his way around the world, and he can't even dance!

24. Thanks to a workmate I've just developed an interest in pole-dancing for fitness.

25. Joe and I love exploring abandoned houses / towns / businesses. A big part of travelling around overseas for us will be seeing abandoned things that have been since before Europeans even settled in this country. The catacombs under France are on my to-do list!

B'aw! I wish you hadn't told me that! *weeps for her lost $50* Still, given that I'm using and abusing a CycloDS card, I can hardly complain about having to pay for a game once in a while.

I did this meme a week or so back, and it drove me crazy trying to think up things to put on it. Now I go crazy every time I remember something interesting that I didn't put on it, like that time I almost got peed on by a lion.

Aw man! Now I'm starting to think the same thing! I stood down a charging bull once, why didn't I put THAT in there??

OMG, my friend Max and I do the same thing with fanfics/porn. The weirdest thing I've seen was Lion King-ized Guns N Roses Slash artwork.

I need to see this Tetris Slash so I can link it to Max XD hilarious!

And its funny, I never knew you were colorblind until you told me that one time recently. It sure doesn't show in your artwork! (which I miss)
