I live! - Suffering From Elation
A Survivor's Tale
I live!
I'm back! And I enjoyed, in order: Adelaide, Alice Springs, Kata Tjuta (the Olgas), Uluru (Ayers Rock), Katherine, and Darwin.

A dingo raided our camp. I rode a camel, and later saw camels mating (noisy). I made friends from all over the world. I bought Aboriginal art. We saw wild brumbies. I slept on the floor of the Gahn transcontinental train. And under the stars in a swag. And on the train again. And on a plane. I watched an American anthropologist playing digeridoo in front of Uluru at sunset. An English girl in our party had her 30th birthday and a group of African tourists in colourful garb surrounded her and sang Happy Birthday in their own language; she almost cried. I had some of the finest chocolate I've ever tasted. We canoed down the Katherine River and disturbed a mob of wallabies, which crashed away through the undergrowth on the banks.

When I got back I slept for almost a day, then we had an excellent party to celebrate Joey's birthday. It was the kind of party where everyone ends up sitting in a circle playing 'I Never' and talking late into the night. I slept most of Sunday away too.

Back at work now, awaiting the use of the card reader so I can do a proper post with photos. :)

We wouldn't have had time... we got into Darwin around 7pm, charged our phones, made arrangements for the next day, crammed down dinner, and made it to the Entertainment Center just in time for an 8pm show. After that was done it was pretty late and we only had time to grab a quick coffee before going back to the transit center to catch our bus up to the airport.

Tell you what, though - I was REALLY impressed with Darwin. It reminded me of Melbourne with better weather and a happier atmosphere. I'll be coming back for a proper holiday. :)

Pictures! Pictures!

Oh wow, can't wait for the pictures and hopefully some more details, you probably already got me hooked and I'd probably do a similar trip next time I come down under. Oh, and of course, welcome ba-hack!
