A Survivor's Tale
All's well
Chris and Jess's baby boy, Kyson, was due last Friday and is yet to make an appearance. I told Jess that he's clearly a slacker and that he gets it from my side of the family. "I know he does!" said Jess, "He's just like Chris, why do anything when he can lay in there and be fed through a tube?"

Awesome. :D

So I wound up turning yesterday right around. My tax return cleared into my account much earlier than I'd expected. I paid off my personal debt completely. Will be paying off my land rates today. And finally, I took off from work at 4.45 as a woman on a mission: to scour the last-day Myer sale and find myself a hot new TV. My budget was a thousand dollars. I've never bought a brand-new TV before, I'd paid off my debts (not counting the mortgage, obviously), and I figured it was time to treat myself. I probably shouldn't do spur-of-the-moment stuff like this but... OK, I have no excuse. :D

We found a gorgeous 81cm Panasonic LCD widescreen, the perfect size to fit into our entertainment unit like a rectangular peg into a rectangular hole. The RRP was 1499, it was on sale for 1099, and I offered cash and got the salesman to drop it down to $999. Score! Then I used a gift card to take it down a smidgen further. ;) They didn't have any in-store aside from the display model so we're going back to pick it up this afternoon.

The old set is in the garage. We took the back off to check the guy's handiwork. Outcome - uncertain. We think he may have added a new heat-sink but it looks like something else in there is blown that should really be fixed if he did what he was supposed to. It's still separated from its cable. The urine smell had faded significantly by the time we got it out of the car last night. Apparently Richard knows someone who's keen to try fixing it himself, and he can have it - at this point it'd probably cost us more to fix than it's worth. Hence the new, shiny, pretty TV with WARRANTY.

I'm still going to haul that TV repair guy over the coals, through entirely legal channels.

I had a bit of insomnia last night (and some CRAAAAZY dreams, it's all related to This Time Of The Month) and Joey woke up too. I let Jangles in and the three of us spooned, nested into one another in order of size in a human-human-cat sandwich.

In other great news, Joey has a job interview for a fulltime admin position! Wish him luck, guys!

So yesterday turned out pretty amazing, all in all. And as of this evening we're going to have a BIG TV, so Damo can see his humiliation all the clearer when I kick his butt in Brawl. :D

Good things are happening. And with that in mind, where's this nephew o' mine? I sense a certain mum-to-be is getting impatient...

Tell Mr Grumpy I have a present for him. Actually, we have one for you too! :D

DON'T tell Mr Grumpy that if he comes tonight, we might need his help moving a TV cabinet from the garage into the front room... O:)

I don't know if that's better than my approach, I arrived some eight weeks early back in 1951 (mom's labor started 'bout 9pm the night before; the next morning, the doc decided at 7:30 that I wasn't coming for a while and went for a cup of coffee, while he was gone I arrived at 7:35 - mom swore that I was born "contrary" and never stopped; she may have been right in some ways ;) ).

Well YEAH she's getting impatient... the bigger that baby gets the more uncomfortable she gets, and the harder it's gonna be to push out, gah. From all I've heard, and now from my own experience, she does have some say in when it happens, though. Subconsciously, she may not be ready, but as soon as she says "For god's sake, GET OUT!" it's due to happen pretty shortly after.

Hell, that's EXACTLY what happened to me and I didn't believe it when people told me that. I was saying "not ready not ready not ready" the whole time, then one day I was like "Gah. I'm so done with this pregnancy gig." And went into labor that night.

Go Jess GO!

(and omg, PeeTV. That's so wrong in so many ways.)
