Small scheduling difficulty
My Jenolan trip is now entirely planned and paid for. I ran into just one small, but vital, scheduling conflict though:

My final cave tour is on Sunday morning and it's a doozy, a big Adventure tour that they only run on the final Sunday of every month, so I didn't want to miss it. It finishes at midday, and I have to be at Sydney airport by 7:30pm for my flight - seven and a half hours to get back to the city isn't too tough, right?

WRONG. To get back to the City I need to take a bus from Jenolan to the train station at Katoomba (both in the Blue Mountains) and from there I take a train directly to the airport (with a quick transfer at Central Station). The very latest train I can catch from Katoomba station to get me to the airport by check-in is the 4.25pm, and none of the tour bus companies doing the Jenolan -> Katoomba run get there before 5pm. D:

I've no doubt I'll solve this (the plea for further info I've just sent to 15 or so tour providers in the Blue Mountains area will hopefully turn up something useful) but just in case, help me think of backup, guys! It's a 45km trip between Jenolan and Katoomba, so potentially I could do it in a taxi but I don't know if they'd come that far out for a fare, and the expense would be mammoth. My other idea is to advertise on Gumtree.com.au for anyone travelling from Jenolan to Katoomba on the day; I could offer to cover their fuel in return for a lift.

Can't hire a car because I don't have my open licence, and though I have some relatives in that state, I barely know them, which would make it a rude imposition even if they weren't a good three hours away from Jenolan.

In GOOD news, when I called up the caves I found out that they're running a rare Jubilee Cave tour at 8pm on Friday night, where there was a gap in my schedule. WOOHOO! With the addition of that to my itinery, I'm now taking every single standard cave tour bar one (the Ribbon Cave) and the only reason I'm not doing that is that it conflicts with the Aladdin Cave adventure tour on Sunday morning. The guy I made my booking through seemed pretty amused at y enthusiasm, though slightly confused that I'm travelling alone. Doesn't anyone travel alone anymore?

Between this and getting my own room at the original $30/night rate, the planning for this trip could NOT have worked out better. Now if I can just solve this transportation hiccup, we'll be sweet as!

I know I'm geeking out about this to an IMPOSSIBLE level, but... first ever research trip! From a writing perspective this excites me even more than the smell of all that beautiful brand-new stationery in the hallowed halls of Officeworks.

Me and Hammond will watch Sawyer while you're gone if you need a cat sitter because we know Joe doesn't like him =D

*hint hint*

Are you guys actually serious about wanting him? Because I'd consider it... Especially if we end up moving to a smaller place eventually.

Sawyer is lovely =D

Noone would object to taking him =D

You say that now, wait 'til the first, er... lower digestive tract issues turn up. ;) But seriously, he IS lovely. Regardless of Joe's antipathy towards him, I'll only part with Sawyer if I have to. As long as we remain at Richard's there's plenty of room for all, but if we wind up in a smaller and/or less cat friendly and/or overseas place, Sawyer will go directly to you guys, and I couldn't think of anyone better to give him all the love he deserves (and will return in his usual overenthusiastic way). <3

Hey Tania, this is unrelated, but I was thinking this morning: do you think over at artists_beware it would be possible to set it up so that members start tagging their entries with the "beware person's" name when they post? I know that I can't always remember everyone that's been talked about in that community, and it would be nice to be able to go to a tag list page and you have all the names right there and if one of those people has requested to commission you, then you can click on their entry and see what problems other people have had with them.

I just feel like it would be really helpful. Maybe people or the mods when they have time could even go back and tag some of the older entries (not all obviously, as it's been around for a while!)

Anyway, you're like the only mod there that I know so I thought I'd bring it up with you. I was gonna post it in the community, but wasn't sure that would be allowed.

You can suggest it, but I doubt the other mods are going to be too keen on the idea of back-tagging hundreds of entries, it'd be an absolutely mammoth task. I saw a similar idea suggested on awesome_places but it was turned down for the same reasons. :\

Nevertheless, I'd recommend making a post on there about it, to test the waters and see if any of the admins are interested!
