Wii
Joe and I are getting a Wii next payday. The newest gaming system we own is a secondhand Playstation 2, so we're thinking it's time to upgrade... alright, I admit it, that's all beside the point. Truth is, we really just want to beat the crap out of each other some more in Super Smash Brothers Brawl. :D

So, have you guys got any advice on how we should approach this mighty purchase? Is there a particular bundled deal you can recommend? A particular store or chain that throws in sweet freebies?

The main things we want are:

- The Wii
- 2 controllers
- Guitar Hero (with two guitars)
- SSBB
- WiiPlay

That's really it at this point. It'd be nice if I could get an old-fashioned controller too, I prefer those. Do you recommend getting the Wii Classic controller or should I get a Gamecube controller secondhand and connect it? Also, a classic-style controller that is also wireless (like X-Box controllers) would be sweet, but I'm not even sure such a thing exists for the Wii.

Any other recommended games?

Hm...I'd reccomend the Wii Classic Controller over the Gamecube controller. Not only is it more responsive than the GameCube controller (though you may want to get a GameCube controller later on, if you ever plan on playing GameCube games, which also can be played on the Wii, coincidentally!) it's also sort of semi-wireless, as it connects to the wii remote and nothing else. ^^

Additionally...wireless GC controllers DO exist, but neither I nor my boyfriend have had very much luck finding one of those that works good or lasts very long. xD

Oops, your comment was screened because I'd failed to friend you back... it's been ages since I've done any kind of FL maintenence. Sorry! Rectified now.

And thanks for the advice! Knowing that, I think I'll probably go with a Wii Classic controller on top of the standard Wiimotes. Joe loves to fight with the Wiimote setup but I'm an old-fashioned girl. ;)

I'm not a gamer historically - I've never played the original Smash Bros, and never played a Gamecube (used the controllers with other people's Wiis heaps though).

I think Hammond has Twilight Princess but I'm not that into rpg / platformer games. Mostly, games only grab me when there's interaction with other people and/or a strongly competitive element, so I love fighting games, and quite enjoy racing games (especially the ones where the object is to cause as much carnage as possible, hah!). I really get a kick out of Guitar Hero too. :)

Haven't heard of Okami, I'll look into that!

For your racing fix there is always Mario Kart Wii. But for a game with a really strong multiplayer competitive format I highly recommend Mario Strikers Charged. It's single player game is a bit weak. But combine with three other players and some alcohol it reaches a whole new level of fun.

For any game bargain hunting I suggest you check out Economical Gamer.

I'd really love to watch Okami played. From what I've seen in trailers, it looks gorgeous.

We have a Wii. You should come to a TV Tuesday some time and play it.

I love Warioware.

I was playing that at Greg's just yesterday. It's fun, but maybe a tiny bit random for me. Still, it's probably up there in the top-5 games I've played on the Wii. :)

Make sure you get nunchuk attachments for your controllers! So many games for the wii require it along with the wiimote, You'll get a 'wiimote' controller with the console, and an extra with WiiPlay, so focus on getting the nunchuks as well since you never know when you'll need them

The classic controller = awesome, and for the most part, pretty wireless thanks to it just needing to plug into the wiimote.

Also: Mario Kart Wii. It is SO MUCH FUN. Super Paper Mario is really fun if you like RPG with platforming, plus it's a great story with great gameplay. Resident Evil 4 for Wii if you like a bit of action/horror. :D
