iTunes question. His name is SID.
Dudes. DUDES. My new iPod is AMAZING.

Limited by budget I was unable to replace FRED with an equally hefty device, so I went with the sleek and sexy little silver iPod Nano 4gig. His name is SID - "Shiny Inexpensive Device."

Anyway, this album flow thing is amazing except for one thing: 90% of the album covers are missing. D:

I've got iTunes on the job downloading them automatically right now but I have a feeling there'll still be mostly gaps because a lot of these songs from the work Music folder - and yes, my workplace is so cool we have 60 gigs of shared music in a centralised location on our network - were ripped from CDs and/or downloaded illegally, and thusly many of them carry wrong / imperfect names.

But I don't have so many bands on my 'pod that I can't manually add album artwork... if I can just work out how! I'm guessing you look up the JPG and save it under a certain filename / format / location? Is this do-able? If so, how?

And why are so many Billy Joel covers working when nothing else is? CONSPIRACY! D:

Also, it's a LONG WEEKEND and I was only informed of this AN HOUR AGO (it's Friday afternoon, people!) And Prince Caspian is out and I was only informed of this FIVE SECONDS AGO. So guess what I'll probably drag ths Joe along to tonight?

it's pretty easy :} i use amazon to look up album artwork, then i right click on the song, select "get info" and then the artwork tab, then just select the image from the amazon page without saving, and drag and drop it in. iTunes does the rest. if you have multiple songs for one album, select them all, and do the same thing; the tabs are gone when you select multiple files, but there's a tiny window for artwork on there.

Well, the above two people have it covered but can I just say what a joy it is to see you organizing your music? It warms the cockles of my cold cold heart.

Next week, once I'm on holidays I will finish the job of organising the 8gb of music Adrian dumped on my computer. HAPPY DAYS!

There are a number of programs on the Mac and PC that will get missing artwork for you automatically much better then iTunes will because they scour Amazon, Walmart, etc. It's not perfect and it's all touchy if you've messed with the MP3 tags at all. On more then one occasion the programs would get a cover for an album from entirely the wrong band.

I had a similar problem when I transfered all my CDs to mp3s. Instead of tracking down the actual album covers though, I just used photos I had taken that I thought fit them, ranging from pretty flowers to my cat decapitating a rabbit. It was pretty fun!
