My Beautiful Day. - Suffering From Elation
A Survivor's Tale
My Beautiful Day.
Before 9am rolled around, I'd already experienced three things that made this into a beautiful day.

It's Dan's last day here at SGRT, and he's using it to simply play his guitar like an angel, skilfully picking out Bach and other classical tunes that linger on the edges of my memory, familiar but elusive. He's been playing for an hour, slipping slowly from one melody into the next, showing no sign of tiring. We're all silently working and listening, and only Katie has made a sound in the last half hour, murmuring, "It sounds like a harp!" And it moves me almost to tears.

Next, I came across a beautiful tribute article to Ollie Johnston, written by Brad Bird in his usual intimate, optimistic style. I love the way that man thinks. I love his films. I love the way he writes. It's a must-read: http://www.cartoonbrew.com/disney/brad-bird-on-ollie-johnston

Finally, Hammond wrote about the Tuesday Club - that's my friends and I - in his journal, and it's a tribute of sorts too. I'll repost a piece of it here:

I love my friends. I don't know if I've mentioned it but my closest Brisbane friends and myself have given our group a name: The Tuesday Club. It's like the Breakfast Club, except we do dinner.

Also drawing a parallel to the Breakfast Club, the Tuesday Club has a diverse range of members. In age, we span a decade; have a great balance of males and females covering a range of sexualities, world views, professions and such. We all get on so well, whether we're all there or just 2 or 3 of us.

The group is an evolution of the old Lost Nite™ days, which petered out as Lost became increasingly ridiculous and many of the attendees had to work and such. For a long while we were an aimless group, getting together when we could until Tania and I came across the AFK Café. We set up Tuesdays as the night when we could generally all get together and AFK became our fantastically awesome hangout. Then, sadly, AFK closed down and we were left venue-less.

Since then, we've usually been congregating at Cootie County as it's the home (now) of 3 members and is pretty central to everyone else. Each week we choose a different place to go or activity to do. Often, the nights conclude with a round of Killer Bunnies which has become our trademark game.

Here they are: my closest friends in Brisbane, The Tuesday Club. I feel like I'm introducing contestants.

dizzay: Diz, the youngest by a week is one of the kindest people you will ever meet. Her boy, Luke, is fast becoming a TC member too, especially with his skill in Bunnies. Studies social work at Uni and works at the Airport for insane hours.
radam:Adders, as I'm sure you know is my boyfriend of 20 months. The group likes to make fun of him because he acts out the most when you do. He's a Woolies checkout chick boy, and is studying to be a Paramedic.
hammond: Me, I'm pretty sure
inc_b: Joe, who I first met on boxing day when he had faded tiger face paint and a tail. I lived with him in East Brisbane and now he's a member of the Cootie County household in West End. He has lots of ideas for things, and I mean lots.
tania: Tania, I would say is the most motivated of the group... for all purposes. She's Joe's partner and has the same living history as he in relation to me. She's very artistically talented and she's animated for Disney, started a business, bought property and now designs graphics for pokies.
guirlandes: Richard used to come to Lost Nite™ back in the day (before I was even in Brisbane). Lately, he's melded into our little group and he's a good fit. He plays (and owns) about a billion instruments (and we're going to his house to play them all next week!).
kellycurious: Kelly is the third Cootie County lodger in the group. She's the oldest but is probably lying about her age. She works in a café and goes to Uni with me studying Radiography. She has a burning hate for our Anatomy lecturer/torturer, Laura, which consumes her thoughts at all times. Kelly is a stealer of kitties; they are all drawn to her.

Hammond didn't describe himself above, so I will. :)

hammond: Hammond is a Radiation Therapy student and the most unselfconscious person I've ever met. He has a tattoo of Homestar Runner on his bicep. He lived with Joe and I for a year once. When Joe and I broke up last year, he was always there for me, unerringly positive. Instead of letting me wallow in unhealthy coping strategies like ranting or hiding from the world, he would show up with Adders, declare an 'intervention', and take me on an adventure. There is very little distance between Hammond's brain and his mouth, which results in hilarity. Somehow, no matter how socially inappropriate his blurt-out is, there's never any bite to it. Hammond is my best friend.

There's a sun-shower outside and I've got Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" in my head.

The social worker, the paramedic, the mad scientist, the musician, the artist, the one who x-rays broken bones, the one who cures cancer... what a bunch of weird cats. :)

Again, I have to correct you that I'm a Radiation Therapy student. As Kelly would say, I'm the therapeutic arm... and she is not.

D'oh, I thought that WAS the difference between Radiography and Radiology. My bad - fixed!

Radiologists are like Radiographers with a medical degree too.
