Apparently if you forget to make a monthly repayment on your Westpac credit card, even if you had the whole thing paid off completely a few weeks ago, you get hit with a $35 fee. Who knew?

So long, Westpac credit card - the moment I pay that sucker off I'm cancelling my account and chopping the fucker up. I used to live without credit cards just fine and I intend to do so again.

Thirty-five dollars, that's ridiculous. As a matter of fact I'm going to call them this afternoon and get that back.

Angerrrrrr.

I totally agree! ;P
Our cards have changed their policies too... now eeeeeven if ya pay it all off, they charge interest on the part from when ya mail it until the cheque gets to them!! *grrrrrr*
Luckily I've been able to call them and reverse that nonsense every time, but if they can get away with people not catching it, they will...

I'm pretty sure that you'll get it back once you bitch at them for it. They're not known for being strong willed about this shit.

Agree, agree - credit cards are evil. The great thing here is debit cards are pretty much the same as credit cards i.e. i can buy things online. Also all transactions are free and I can use it overseas and it's free as well!

Of the big 4 banks, Westpac is by far the most aggressive when it comes to charging fees. 1 cent overdrawn? That crime will cost you $35. 5 seconds late? That'll cost you $35 also! AND they will call you up and harass you to make the payment.

Sadly I can't afford to pay off my Westpac card, but it is possible to make them reimburse you simply because charging a huge fee for being late is technically illegal. Banks are allowed to "recoup reasonable expenses", but since that amounts to a few cents, the fee is a blatant money-making rip-off.
