Pinched the pun off Nicole / thornwolf, don't blame me!

Seriously, you guys. Seriously? Seriously. Did anyone see any DECENT April Fool's jokes this year? I didn't! It seems like everyone remembered the April Fools part but forgot the definition of "joke": the humor part. Just making something lame up and then going "huurrrr, it's not true," is SO not an April Fool's joke!

Kidnapping a flatmate's beloved guitar / childhood teddy bear / entire computer box / (insert beloved possession) and leaving a ransom note with a picture of said possession tied to a chair with an axe poised to strike: April Fool's joke. Filling twenty plastic cups with water, lining them up on your coworker's desk, stapling them all together and then filming what happens when your coworker tries to 'tidy up': April Fool's joke. Sadly, I am too new in this job to pull that one... this year. :D

Durr, of course not. Ruining expensive crap would ruin the humor. ;)

Hmm, well, I had a coworker put up signs on the two entry doors the night before, saying "please use other entrance" trying to get people to walk around the building, confused, until they realized it was a joke. But, whoever opened up the building yesterday morning was STUPID and unlocked another door that wasn't meant to be opened, it had an instant alarm on it and it called the police immediately. So the police showed up, AND the property manager showed up, thinking someone broke in... my coworker was really upset because her joke had been 'botched' but in reality it showed who the April Fool was: the person who should've known better because ALL doors besides the two main entrances have instant alarms on. They actually thanked her because "we all learned something from this" and the keyholder got a lecture. :P

I hate LJ April Fool's. Posting retarded entries about something stupid is NOT funny. It just makes most people not read their friends list because nothing can be believed anyway.

Gmail had a 'send emails' to the past thing that really lacked effort. I personally believe that the best April Fool's joke is one which requires people to put themselves in a situation, making them a fool rather than a victim.

Nah, nothing good - the only thing even remotely amusing was that if you went to questionablecontent.com yesterday it sent you to Dinosaur Comics, and if you tried to go to dinosaur comics it sent you to XKCD, and if you tried to go there it sent you to Questionable Content.

I heard about that one after the event, that was a pretty good idea - Ryan North of Dinosaur Comics reckons he got a flood of mail compromised of 85% "good one!" and 15% "OMFG YOU HAXXORED MY FAVE COMIC!!1!11"

The Blizzard website jokes were VERY funny.

The Ragnarok Online private I play on sometimes replaced a bunch of the skill noises with things like the Hamster Dance song, that Rumba song from The Mask, "HAAALLELUJAH," quotes from Star Trek: TNG, things like that. Best April Fool's day joke ever. :D

I don't think I even saw that one - must've missed a chunk of my FL yesterday!

The only time April Fools jokes really work is in the sitcoms where there are actual harmless pranks that everyone gets a laugh at, unless you're around creative people who are able to pull the same caliber everyone-has-fun joke. Otherwise you get people pulling lame attempts at "jokes" on LJ by making pretend fights or something that sounds like it could possibly be serious etc. that results in two things: either getting people worried about the poster and giving them a slight sense of relief when you reveal that you're being "funny" OR for people who know what day it is, making you come off as a HUGE asshole because you actually thought that something like that is hilarious.

I hate the prank shows that do something really horrible to the person and laugh at how upset they are. It should be about having egg on your face but being able to laugh about it.

Seriously? Is April Fools' really more of the 'practical joke' variety in other countries? Having grown up in Finland, it's always been about pulling people's legs to me. I've never heard of anyone pulling off real pranks on April Fools', like buckets of water on top of doors or whatever. I read about it once in a comic and I was thinking: "Nah, this isn't how it works. Must be different in America or wherever this was made". I'm guessing it's like that in Australia as well, then? O_o

Well, let's face it, Australia is slowly becoming a second America ;D

I so want todo both of those.

Sadly, my friends neither have desk jobs, or beloved items.
