LJ - Suffering From Elation
A Survivor's Tale
Another LJ drama. To be honest I'm a little tired of the community imploding anytime they're confronted with a change. To each their own, but my view is that Livejournal is a company, they exist to make a profit. I enjoy their product and I am happy to pay for it. I'm pleased with the features and freedoms my account provides. I'm so happy to pay for it that I have a permanent account. So no, I'm not threatening to go to InsaneJournal or GreatestJournal, and if I don't update on the boycott date of March 21st, it'll only be because I'm too busy lounging around flying a kite and nomming on Easter eggs down at the farm.

Now if they take away paid accounts, then I'll be upset... because that's a service I PAID for. But my sense of entitlement is not so over-evolved that I expect LJ should continue to provide me with freebies, regardless of how long I've been here. It's a business, not your mom. ;)

Confused folk may read here for an overview of the latest drama: http://chipotle.livejournal.com/183056.html

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Whether people like it or not, if something is free, it's a privilege, not a right.

Frankly it's not that I'm upset with. I'm upset with how they went about certain changes- having nothing to do with the adult filters (which don't bother me so much). I don't want to find out about changes like taking away the basic account plans through other LJ users. I don't want to have them tell me it's "to make signing up/logging in/whatever less confusing" like people are complete morons. I know this is a business, I don't expect things for free- however, as a customer I do expect my opinions to matter otherwise I will take my business elsewhere. I believe in voting with your money.

Having read through that post, that's basically what I was considering was happening- although the part about the Russian blogging usage surprised me. I never thought of myself as a 'legacy user' (since I do remember the invite codes) but I have been here a good amount of time. And I probably will be scouting for a possible replacement. But until then I'm here. And I've turned off the payments for my LJ. Cuz while I don't think that SUP cares, at least it makes me feel as if I'm doing something.

Agreed with you there - they delivered the news badly, tucking it into the bottom of some minor updates list in unclear doublespeak. Hopefully they learn from the response to be up-front about changes. Hiding it just made it seem as though they felt guilty about the decision. The best way to handle it would have been for them to declare, "This is what we're doing and this is why." There'd still have been outcry, but at least it would have been centered around the policy itself rather than the detail of how it was delivered.

Yup and yup. Common sense should be more common don't you think?

Thank you. I feel the exact same way.

apparently greatestjournal recycles people pretty fast, too... another friend got nixed over there just for being idle... ;P
