Adorable Cabin is Adorable
Ooooh, I want this: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=140211019573&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=004

It would look Rather Damn Fine on my block of land.

Sadly, I currently lack the $30,000 required to obtain this ($23,000 pricetag plus moving costs, and I'm not even going to mention the council fees, septic tank, plumbing and eletricity connection fees), but a gal can dream. What it lacks in the bom-shicka value of the 1970's-style cabin I eyed off previously, it makes up for in sickening country cuteness.

Careful... the photos clearly were taken to hide the homes next to it as well as what, if any, vegetation is around it. I mean... the home itself is quite nice, but the setting might suck.

Yep, my block is gorgeous. On a subtropical island, it's sandy-soiled (good for building!), fronting onto an as-yet-unpaved street, surrounded by trees and with a border of trees around the block itself, but only a single small tree in the central / buildable part - it's going to be dead easy to clear that! It makes me happy. :) All I need is a cute little affordable cabin to go onto it until I either have the money to build a proper house, or decide to sell to someone else who wants to do so.

That sounds like a dream for me... god knows I have enough material to build a... unique... dwelling of my own out of antique furniture. It'd be like living in one of my UglyBoxes -- which means no one else could stand to live there :)

Good luck with your plans. I'd love to see pictures of the island if/when you have them.

So cute. I'm addicted to a show called escape to the country.

Honestly, I dream of living in a place like that, but even once the cabin is built I doubt that I can live there for reals - it's just too far from work, especially with the ferry ride counted in. This is why I need to get older and become independently wealthy; then it won't matter where I live, and I can go somewhere awesome and adventure-ful and raise my kids where they can swim and play with a dog in the long grass and play in the streets without risking life and limb.

hell yeah.

on the downside - I'm getting a terrible pre-flu headache and sore throat again

All that terrible English weather is hard on my poor Suse. :( Meanwhile it is still stubbornly hot over here. Last week we thought it was breaking but then it was all, "Haha! Heatwave to the FACE! Suckers!"

That's triple the chance of jobness though! This is good! And at least you'll only have to get all dressed up ONCE. ;)

It's flooding up north - Mackay, for memory. We had some pretty hardcore rain here too, but not flooding per se - maybe in a couple of isolated little bits. I want more rain! MOAR!

2hrs each way, it's doable. Just not fun and not really compatible with shift work :/
