Scrubs quote - Suffering From Elation

Scrubs quote
Huh, I've not been massively keen on 'Scrubs' so far, but finding this quote makes me want to watch more of it. It's the best summation I've seen of how I feel about relationships: that like everything else worthwhile in life, they're not always easy and they require effort. I've shed the ideals of high romance but I don't see myself becoming a cynic anytime soon.

"Relationships don't work the way they do on television and in the movies. Will they, won't they, and then they finally do and they're happy forever, give me a break. Nine out of ten of them end because they weren't right for each other to begin with and half the ones that get married get divorced anyway and I'm telling you right now, through all this stuff, I have not become a cynic, I haven't. Yes, I do happen to believe that love is mainly about pushing chocolate covered candies, and, you know, in some cultures, a chicken. You can call me a sucker, I don't care, because I do believe in it. Bottom line is couples that are truly right for each other wade through the same crap as everybody else, but the big difference is that they don't let it take them down. One of those two people will stand up and fight for that relationship every time, if it's right, and they're real lucky."

A friend of mine used that as his monologue when he was auditioning for a play. He got the part. XD

Scrubs irritates me as much as it amuses me (for reasons that would require a rambly LJ post of my own), but it does have some little gems of wisdom that you don't often find elsewhere.

I think that's more or less my reaction to it as well. It swings rapidly from 'cute and funny' to 'smug and annoying' and back again.

"One of those two people will stand up and fight for that relationship every time"

Yeah... but it takes both of them to stand up for it to work out in the long run :P

Yep... Everyone falters or falls sometimes; the important bit is the part where you pick yourself up and carry on. If one of the two people can't do that, the relationship is buggered... one person can drag the other only so far before both get resentful.

ps how do you get livejournal connect to .. you know .. not be broken? i ended up removing it because it was posting copies of my entries to facebook 2, 3 hell even 5 times sometimes, on the hour.

Haha, caught out!

Honestly, I have not worked it out yet. I just use the little X next to the duplicate facebook entries to get rid of them. Also I cannot use the apostrophe key on this computer, hence the talking-like-a-robot thing I have got going here and on Facebook.

Oh that was such a good episode, too.

I love the earlier episodes. The more recent seasons have me going "bwuh-huh whut?" sometimes. But I'm a sucker for dorky/silly comedy.

Yeah, seasons 1 and 2 were pretty good, overall. Season five has some good moments, and there were a few good episodes in season 6. But the rest of it just feels like they sold out to daytime TV drama/angst. Seasons three and four were mostly one long experience of "What the Hell..?" for me. Having friends who adore the show meant I got exposed to enough episodes to like it, somewhat.

I'll be perfectly honest - every time I have a bad day, I come home and watch Dr. Cox's rampages. Makes work seem bearable. XDD

If you're going to watch it, Tania, I reccomend the early seasons. After awhile, it just gets too predictably soap-ish. And every now and then, they do have some really excellent moments like the one above.
